Bangor -
A Fairfield man has been cleared of robbing a credit union in Skowhegan, but was found guilty Wednesday of being an accessory to that crime.
Forrest Goodwin Jr., 33, was one of two men accused of stealing more than $9,000 from a Taconnet Federal Credit Union three years ago.
In April, Paul Garland of Oakland pleaded guilty to the robbery.
A jury in Bangor decided Goodwin didn't help rob the bank, but did help Garland get away afterward.
Goodwin told police he drove Garland to the bank on his motorcycle, but said he didn't know Garland robbed the place until they took off.
Goodwin's attorney, Stephen Smith, asked that both sides stipulate to the jury that Garland robbed the credit union.
Smith said he did that in order to make one thing abundantly clear.
"Garland was the individual who actually committed this robbery. There was no question about that. The only question was what role my client had to play. Was he as equally as guilty, or did he do something relatively minor after the fact?" said Smith.
Ultimately, the jury agreed with the latter.
Goodwin was being held at the Penobscot County Jail throughout the trial. He'll remain in custody until his sentencing hearing, which has not be scheduled.
He faces up to 12 1/2 years in prison.
