A state lawmaker wants the Legislature's oversight agency to review proposed toll increases on the Maine Turnpike.
Sen. Margaret Craven, a Lewiston Democrat, plans on Friday to formally request the probe by the Office of Program Evaluation and Accountability.
Craven says the toll increases on the 109-mile highway would disproportionately impact residents in the Lewiston-Auburn area and
western areas of the state.
The Maine Turnpike Authority is considering several toll hike scenarios and could take a vote as early as July 19.
The authority's preferred option is to add $1 to the toll plaza in York, 75 cents in New Gloucester and West Gardiner, and 50 cents each at the Wells northbound and Gray southbound toll plazas.
The increases are expected to raise an additional $26 million in annual revenue.
