Downeast Fisheries Trail Opens

3

Cobscook Bay - A new auto trail is giving visitors a different way to explore our coast.

The new Downeast Fisheries Trail is now open.

It's made up of forty-five sites stretching from the Penobscot Bay to the Canadian border.

Along the way are museums and historical societies to teach visitors about the Downeast fishing community.

Those behind the trail hope visitors will come back to spend more time and money exploring the coast.

"The fishing industry is still very active within our coastal communities and are still a big part. We hope people go home understanding a bit more about the places people come to," said Natalie Springuel with the UMaine Sea Grant program.

To learn more about the trail, visit downeastfisheriestrail.org.
