State Museum Expands Weekend Hours

Augusta - The Maine State Museum in Augusta is expanding its Sunday hours.

From June 24 through Nov. 25, the museum's hours will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday hours will continue from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., along with regular weekday hours Tuesday through Friday from 9 to 5. The museum will be closed on Mondays and all state holidays.

The museum's featured new exhibition, "Malaga Island, Fragmented Lives," continues on view. It's about the mixed-race community that was evicted by the state of Maine in 1912 from the island, just off the coast of Phippsburg.

During July and August, the museum will show a special exhibit marking the 100th anniversary of the Girl Scouts.
