State Police have apprehended a man they say robbed two Central Maine pharmacies this week, including the Rite Aid pharmacy on College Avenue this afternoon.
State Police arrested 26-year-old Shawn Merrill, a transient, at around 3:30 this afternoon south of Augusta near Windsor. Waterville Police have sent their own detectives to interview Merrill. No word yet on where he's being taken.
Merrill is accused of robbing the Rite Aid in Fairfield at gunpoint this afternoon. Police say Merrill also robbed the pharmacy at a Waterville Walmart on Tuesday night.
Police tell us Merrill has an extensive criminal record.
He was arrested for robbing a gas station attendant at J+S Oil on Mount Vernon Avenue in Augusta two years ago.
