Baxter Park Rangers Make Two Rescues in Matter of Hours

Bazter Park Rangers made two rescues within a couple of hours of each other on Thursday afternoon.

The first one was around 2:00 PM. A 22-year-old hiker about two miles up the Hunt Trail of Mt. Katahdin had a leg injury.

Rangers assisted the hiker to the trailhead.

Then at 4:45 PM, Park Rangers were notified of a 46-year-old hiker who needed help. He was two miles up the Abol Slide trail, which is one of the steepest in the park.

A rescue team carried the hiker for more than a mile, arriving at the campground around 1:00 Friday morning. The Millinocket Fire Department transported that hiker to a local hospital for evaluation.
