Exeter Farm Turning Manure Into Electricity

3

Exeter - A dairy farm in Exeter isn't wasting its waste.

It's using a new system to convert manure into heat and electricity.

It's called anaerobic digestion and it's being used by the Stonyvale Farm.

The farm is the first one in the state to adopt the system.

The farm's owners say it produces enough electricity to power 8-hundred homes in the New England region.

"This is a critical concept for the future, one that will drive broader scale development and investment nationwide, once the true merits are fully understood," says Adam Wintle with Bio Gas Energy Partners.

The farm is working with Maine based-company Exeter Agri-Energy to sell the electricity to Bangor Hydro.

It will supply power to both households and commercial businesses.
