Local Tennis Players Go After State Singles Title

3

Waterville - The state singles tourney going on for the second straight day at Colby College. There was a lot of talent on the court and there was some great competition as well. Matches starting up at nine this morning. We'll show you the early stuff and some of the local names.

Mea Clark of MDI in the far court taking on Emma Blakeley from Camden Hills. This one went to Blakeley, she wins in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2.

Jordan Friedland of Lincoln Academy taking down Pat Stewart and his strong serve. That one goes to Friedland in straight sets again, 6-4, 6-3.

We had to keep our eye on Ellsworth's Tyler Small, who was a top performer on his way to states, but he did lose in three sets to Sam Leeman.

The most exciting match of the morning was between Hampden's Ashley Woodside and Colleen O'Donnell from Waterville. The match lasting more than two hours. The players trading the first two sets, and even though O'Donnell was down 4-2 in the third set, she'd rally to win it, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. Both players talked about the fatigue after the match, but praised their opponent for a great contest.
