Sports are played for fun, for exercise, for the love of the game. For Orono softball pitcher Andi Foster all of those are true. And the Orono senior will have to give all of that up for a short time.
The Orono softball players had their senior day Monday because Foster will have surgery Tuesday to remove her thyroid glands and some cancer cells.
The pitcher has stage one thyroid cancer. The prognosis though is very good.
Monday she was back in the circle against George Stevens Academy,and looking good as usual. She started the game getting the first two hitters on strikes. She had 11 in her final game before surgery and the Riots won it 14-2.
