Lewiston, Portland -
The Attorney General has cleared two law enforcement officers of any wrongdoing for shooting a man after a high speed chase in Lewiston last fall.
An investigation found Lewiston Police Officer Nicholas Meserve and Androscoggin County Deputy Sheriff Travis Lovering were justified in firing at 43-year-old Kyle Corey of Portland.
Police say they pursued Corey and another man from Lewiston to New Auburn and back to Lewiston again until the stolen car they were driving crashed in a parking garage.
They say Corey then hit Officer Meserve with the car and when he tried to drive away, Meserve and Lovering fired at him.
Corey was hit in the shoulder.
He was charged with theft, refusing to stop for an officer, aggravated assault, and assault on an officer.
Thorpe was charged with refusing to stop for an officer, theft, carrying a concealed weapon, and refusing to submit to arrest.
