Orono - The ladies of Pi Beta Phi at the University of Maine in Orono had the napkins ready Friday night during their 4th Annual Chicken Wing Eating Contest.

Area restaurants donated wings to be judged. $5 bought samples of wings to be and then to be voted on as the best in town.

The main event of the night was the chicken wing eating competition. Contestants raced to see who could eat the most wings the quickest.

All the proceeds from the night were to benefit first book, a charity dedicated to promoting literacy to children.

"Our philanthropic partner is First Book. They are dedicated to bringing low income families their first book across the United States and Canada," said Courtney Maynard, Pi Beta Phi Vice President of Philanthrophy.

"This is just part of our fundraising, we also do fundraising online. We've raised over $500 online and quite a bit today, and all that money will go straight to First Book," said Brittany Cote, Pi Beta Phi Vice President of Communications.
