Gas Prices Continue to Rise

2

Bangor - The price of gas continues to shoot up.

According to AAA, the average price per gallon on Wednesday in Maine is $3.95, that's 4-cents higher than Tuesday.

The national average price per gallon is $3.93.

The most expensive place to get gas in our state is Fort Fairfield at $4.23 but in Buckfield there's only one gas pump and it's a relative deal, $3.67 a gallon.

Overall, we're spending a lot more on gas than we used to.

"The percent of income that the average American household spent on gas in March increased to 8.7-percent. So 8.7-percent of your household budget on average in the country is going towards purchasing gas and I do know that Maine has the household incomes that are less than the national average, so it's probably even greater than that in the state of Maine," said Paul Moody, manager of public affairs for AAA of Northern New England.

This isn't the highest average price for gas in Maine, in mid-July, 2008 the average price hit $4.14.

Analysts say we should expect prices to continue to climb.
