The UMaine hockey team was counting on Matt Mangene to help them get back to the tournament next year, but Mangene received an offer he couldn't refuse, and the junior has accepted a deal from the Flyers to turn pro.
Mangene signed his deal in Portland.
Mangene reports to Adirondak, where he will play for the Flyer's AHL team.
His pro deal could pay him close to a million dollars with bonuses.
Regarded as one of the speediest players in the country, Mangene acknowledges that his speed helped him get this deal.
