Worcester, MA -
The Black Bears getting a huge boost before the game as the nation's leading scorer, Spencer Abbott, was cleared to play and was in the lineup.
1st period, no score, until the Hobey Baker candidate changes that. Spencer Abbott finds a lane, makes an impact right away, and it's 1-0 Maine after one.
Then in the 2nd, some strange plays. The first one goes the way of the Black Bears. You see the net get knocked off its hindges, but no whistle, so Maine keeps the play alive. Matt Mangene goes in alone and beats Kenny Reiter. It's 2-0 Black Bears.
But after that, the momentum changing hands. After a Jack Connolly goal made it 2-1, Caleb Herbert with the steal off Brice O'Connor. Dan Sullivan with a big save, but the puck goes off the end glass, bounces off Sullivan, and goes into the net, tying the game at two.
Then late in the 2nd, off the turnover, Sullivan again with a save, but Jake Hendrickson tips in the rebound. The Bulldogs would add two more in the 3rd period and they win it, 5-2 the final. The season is over for the Black Bears. They finish with a 23-14-3 record.
