Bangor, Brewer, Orono - A local man admired for having a way with words and sharing that gift with others had died.

Doctor Warren Burns, better known as "Doc", passed away at his home in Brewer Monday morning.

Burns began teaching in the speech department at the University of Maine in 1968 after getting a doctorate from Penn State.

He stayed at Umaine for more than 20 years.

In 1987, he also started working at the New England School of Communications in Bangor and has been teaching there ever since.

Burns was also a World War II vet, serving as a navigator with the 99th Bomb Group.

Warren "Doc" Burns was 87.
