Liberty - Fire destroyed a home in Liberty early Monday morning.

Crews were called to Smith Road a little after 3 a.m.

The owner, Otis Smith was home at the time.

He managed to get out safely.

Fire fighters from five towns battled the flames for a few hours.

Liberty Fire Chief Bill Gillespie says a lack of water supply and cold temperatures complicated things.

Smith told fire fighters the blaze began around the wood stove.

The Red Cross will be called in to help him.
