Augusta -
Maine is seeing an increase in rabid animals.
Officials say 11 cases of rabies were confirmed in January 2012, while in 2011, only one animal tested positive for the virus.
Experts say this year's warmer temperatures could be contributing to the rabies increase because animals can roam more freely.
Rabies is spread when infected animals bite or scratch a person or another animal.
Mainers are advised to be careful around wild animals and make sure pet's are vaccinated.
