Governor Lepage has created a task force to fight prescription drug abuse in Maine.
The 17-member panel will include health officials and will have a police presence.
Lepage's office says drug-related deaths now exceed traffic deaths in Maine.
And more than 500 babies born in Maine last year faced opiate withdrawal and other effects from their mothers' drug abuse.
The task force will work on such things as a prescription drug disposal program, public education to reduce drug abuse and notifying prescribers when patients are arrested for giving drugs to others.
