Bangor - Maine Youth Leadership is doing their part to teach high school sophomores about volunteering.

They teamed up with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive.

It's part of their Holiday Huddle.

The program aims to teach leadership, volunteerism and character.

" The American Red Cross always needs volunteers. They can't be running the canteen or the registration. We want them to take care of what needs to be done by getting the blood, so it's nice to have volunteers. It also teaches the kids a sense of pride in the community, helping out and giving back," said Joshua Wheelock of Maine Youth Leadership.

They hosted two blood drives, one here in Bangor and also in Portland. They hope to expand to more areas next year.
