Green Tea
This well-known healthy drink washes out toxins with its special antioxidants called catechins, which also increase liver function.
Hot Water & Lemon Juice
To aid inner cleansing, a very good health habit is to both begin and end the day with a drink of hot water and fresh lemon juice. This has a cleansing effect on the liver and kidneys, as well as the rest of the digestive system.
Seeds & Nuts
Incorporate more of the easily digestible seeds and nuts into your diet. This includes flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, almonds, walnuts, hemp seeds, sesame seeds, chia seeds, Siberian cedar nuts and sunflower seeds.
Simple Trail Mix
Combine high fiber cereal with a combination of any of the following:
Dried Fruits
Nuts
Seeds
Dark Chocolate pieces
Coconut flakes
Green Food
Remember when your mom told you to eat something green every day? Do it. And make sure some are leafy greens like kale, spinach, arugula and even wheatgrass or blue green algae. The chlorophyll will boost your digestive tract to eliminate environmental toxins from smog, heavy metals, herbicides, cleaning products and pesticides. They also aid the liver in detoxification.
Easy Green Sauté
1 bunch of greens (Swiss chard, bok choy or spinach)
2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 garlic clove crushed
Pinch of red pepper flakes
1/2 cup chicken or vegetable stock
Sea Salt to taste
Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Clean greens well under cold running water. If using chard or bok choy, separate leaves from stems.
Heat 2 Tbsp. olive oil in wok over medium-high heat until shimmering.
Add garlic clove and red pepper flakes cooking garlic until golden.
Remove garlic and add the stems to the wok along with the chicken stock. Cook for 1 - 2 minutes until tender-crisp.
Add the leaves, cover and continue cooking until the leaves are wilted and tender, about 3 minutes.
Season with the sea salt and garnish with the extra virgin olive oil.
Lemons, Oranges & Limes
These citrus-wonders aid the body in flushing out toxins, as well as jump-start the digestive tract with enzymatic processes. They also aid the liver in its cleansing processes. To increase detoxification, start each morning with a warm glass of lemon water.
Remember, vitamin C is one of the best detox vitamins around, as it transforms toxins into digestible material. Eat vitamin c foods often to help get more of these benefits.
Fruits
Fruits are extremely high in liquid-content, helping the body wash out toxins. They are also very easy to digest and are high in antioxidants, nutrients, fiber and many important vitamins like vitamin C.
Fast Fruit Compote
1 1/2 cups frozen or fresh mixed berries
2 Tbsp. sugar
1 Tbsp. water
1 1/2 tsp. cornstarch
2 tsp. water
2 tsp. lemon juice
If using fresh berries, clean and slice large berries in half.
In a small saucepan combine the berries with the sugar and 1 Tbsp. of water.
Heat and cook over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the berries release their juices.
Combine the cornstarch with the 2 tsp. water until smooth.
Add to the berries and cook for 1 - 2 minutes until thickened.
Add lemon juice and serve warm or cold as a topping over ice-cream, yogurt or sponge cake.
