Four Maine State Parks Offering Free Admission New Year's Day

2

Maine's state park service hopes folks will take a hike on New Year's Day.

It's part of a nationwide program for state parks to offer "First Day Hikes."

Cobscook Bay State Park in Edmunds Township is one of four in Maine inviting you to the park for free on Sunday. Park Manager Matt McGuire says it's a great opportunity to attract more visitors.

"We want to get people here who maybe have never had a hike here at the park before, have never been outside, or are avid hikers and have never visited this park. We're really hoping to encourage everyone, all different ages and abilities to join us," said McGuire.

The three other parks in Maine offering free hikes are Aroostook State Park in Presque Isle, Wolfe's Neck Woods State Park in Freeport, and Popham Beach State Park in Phippsburg.
