Ex-Maine Woman Sentenced For Harassing Judges

A former Maine woman who was at the center of an 8.5-hour police standoff in 2005 has been sentenced in federal court to time served for telephone harassment of judges and other government officials connected to the confrontation.

Charlotte Bea Palm also was sentenced Monday to one year of supervised release. During that time she is barred from having firearms and other weapons, and must undergo mental health treatment.

The Portland Press Herald reports that a judge noted that the 50-year-old Palm has battled mental illness for much of her life and was under increased stress when she made the harassing calls earlier this year.

She pleaded guilty last month to one count of telephone harassment. Her lawyer says she is remorseful. Charges related to the standoff have been dismissed. (The Associated Press, The Portland Press Herald).
