UMaine Names Former Black Bear as the New Softball Coach


Orono - Lynn Coutts is the new softball coach at UMaine. The former UMaine player will take over a team that had its last two coaches not rehired.

Coutts had applied for the position before and had been recommended for the position. This time the university selects Coutts.

Coutts is taking over a program that had seen some turmoil in the last few years.

She is also a UMaine Hall of Famer. She pitched for the school from 1983-87, leading the team to the ECAC championship her last year. She graduated from Maine with a number of pitching records and was a District All-American. Last year she also served as president of the Maine High School Softball Coaches Association.

She went into the umaine hall of fame in 1993.
