Artists Use Walls As Their Canvas at UMaine

Orono - Eight artists from across the state are using the walls of a gallery at the University of Maine as their canvas for an upcoming exhibit.

The artists have transformed the walls of the Lord Hall Gallery into temporary pieces of art.

The exhibit, Drawing On, is part of the Maine Drawing Project, a year long event between cultural organizations in the state.

Twenty institutions are taking part.

"We tend to think of art as precious objects and in this case people will have worked beautiful, beautiful drawings that in November are going to be painted over so they aren't going to be permanent. It's going to be something they'll have to let go of."

The exhibit will open next Friday, October 14 at 5:30 pm.

Admission is free.
