Bangor - It's music to the ears of RSU 19's music teacher.

Through the Gifts of Music Program, students at the Hartland Consolidated School and St. Albans Elementary School will be receiving free instruments.

The Gifts of Music was founded last year. Its purpose is to provide instruments, scholarships and grants to keep music education and live performance vibrant in Maine.

The program has teamed up with Main Street Music Studios and Wednesday they handed over six instruments.

"I know how important it is to so many youngsters and students particularly. There are all sorts of different types of learners when it comes to students. Music really appeals to so many."

"For a lot of kids it's a brand new outlook on life because of all the things they do, this is something different in their schedule. They have a chance to be creative, make things up, make mistakes and get messy a little bit. Then they come back again and make music."

If you have a gently used instrument you'd like to donate to the program, drop it off at Main Street Studios in downtown Bangor.
