Cape Elizabeth -
Some of the top runners from around the world were in Cape Elizabeth this morning for the beach to beacon 10 K Road Race.
Six thousand runners from 11 countries and 41 states took part in the 14th running of the world class road race.
Muggy conditions stopped the runners from breaking any course records but some the winners still put in some great times.
Micah Cogo from Kenya was the overall winner in a time of just under 28 minutes. Aheza Kiros was the top Women’s finisher.
Micah Kogo – Men’s Winner
"This race for me was a fantastic moment because I was thinking on my way to run faster but I couldn't because I was too tired."
Luis Luchini – Top Maine Men’s Finisher
"I ran here back in 2002 and uh I was in college then and I was in a lot better shape and um my coach told me to run like a hard tempo run and then I did it in 30:08 and this year I ran hard in 30:30 so I guess I’m getting older."
Sheri Piers – Top Maine Women’s Finisher
"It was really hot out there today it was hotter than expected you know we typically we’ve been training in the heat the hot weather but our training runs started at five in the morning so we still get the humidity that sun we didn’t usually used to have that right on us like that so that was really hard and my time showed it."
