Redeveloping Of Historical Site in Augusta Questionable

Augusta - Plans for redeveloping a 19th century historical site in Augusta have hit a snag.

North Carolina-based developer Niemann Capital made a deal with the state four years ago to upgrade the Kennebec Arsenal site, which consists of several buildings where soldiers stayed and ammunition was made.

Niemann planned to restore the property for residential and small commercial uses.

Vandals have smashed windows and doors and started a fire at the site.

Tom Niemann says his company is still interested in the site, but financing for the residential part is hard to find in today's market.
