Orono - A ground breaking ceremony was held at the University of Maine in Orono Tuesday afternoon.

The UMaine Forest and Bioproducts Research Institute is celebrating plans to build an addition to Jenness Hall.

The new 3,300 square foot space will give technical staff the room to work with visiting researchers and collaborators. There will also be training space, videoconferencing facilities and much more.

" As U-Maine's research enterprise continues to grow, so does the University's capacity for leading the way to a brighter future through research through innovation and economic development that derives from those efforts," said Robert Kennedy, President of the University of Maine.

Funding for the project comes from the Maine Technology Asset Fund, a competitive award program funded by voter-approved bonds.
