Whoopie pies now top the menu as the official Maine state treat.
A bill giving the whoopie pie that distinction went into law after the governor didn't sign it.
The original version of the bill had called for whoopies to be the official state dessert, but it was changed to wild Maine blueberry pie, making whoopie pies the official treat instead.
The bill was created when Maine and Pennsylvania each claimed credit for inventing the delectable dessert.
