Whoopie Pie Rock

Orono - The battle over whoopie pie ownership continues between Maine and Pennsylvania.

Some Mainers feel they have the proof set in stone, literally.

Professor Harold Borns at the University of Maine discovered a rock in Perry last fall that resembles a whoopie pie.

The rock peaked his interest because of the debate between Maine and Pennsylvania over the origin of the treat.

We're told the process of petrification has transformed the chocolate cake into gray stone and the white creamy filling to quartz.

"He feels the whoopie pie is about 10,000 years old. So that stakes our claim to having the oldest whoopie pie. And it's a rock solid claim."

They say word of the whoopie pie rock has gotten back to folks in Pennsylvania and they're still putting up a friendly fight.
