Augusta -
Public hearings began Friday on a bill that would phase out the use of BPA, a chemical found in items like baby bottles and sippy cups.
A diverse group of people met with the media this morning before testifying before lawmakers.
The group is urging the governor and lawmakers not to oppose the phase out of BPA.
Gathered in front of a giant inflatable baby bottle, they presented reports from scientists on the dangers of BPA. "So the record on BPA is clear and overwhelming," said Steve Taylor from the Alliance for a Clean ans Healthy Maine. "That's the scientific reality and we hope that the committee and the Governor will be able to see that physically and visually today."
Governor LePage said Friday there's still not enough scientific evidence to him that BPA is harmful.
LePage made news a few weeks ago when he said women may grow little beards as a result of BPA.
Friday the governor said he only supports laws based on science not emotion.
