I believe the best player in all classes (Garet Beal) should get the play of the week. He's only a sophmore and is very talented and deserves it This kid is not a fly by night wonder boy he is and will go places in basketball as a carea

i dont think there is anyone beating the system, its just that garet beal is a very populare player in the state. he has lots of fan that are on here supporting him

Gabe should win this. He plays with all his heart, at every sport he does. He practices constantly, and plays to his full potential- always working to get better, every day. He stands up for his school, has good sportsmanship, is a good person (in the school and in the community), and is friends with all of his teammates. Being a good player isn't just on the court, on how well you handle the ball, or how any points you make. It's also about you character, your sportsmanship, etc. Gabe has all of these things, and he should get this!

I believe that Gabe should win player of the week. The kid has crazy skills and is very quick! In my opinion he deserves it for this play along with many others he had during the tournament!

I cannot believe some of the comments I have read! Obviously those three players could help some of you with "good sportsmanship"....do not degrade players because you don't like a comment that was posted!! Some of you are very disrespectful and shouldn't be allowed to leave some of the comments I read! All 3 players of the week have worked hard to achieve their place on their teams! I am almost positive they all show good sportsmanship and excellent character on and off the court! I am very proud of the teams I have seen play this year, however, Garet Beal is the best all around high school basketball player I have probably ever seen and watching him work with his team is very impressive! He could showboat but chooses not to because he probably knows working as a team will get him a lot further than working alone on his team! I have never witnessed such skill from high school players as I have this year and am very proud of them all! That being said, my vote went for Garet. No one can deny or compare the mad skills he has when it comes to basketball!

This poll is about the PLAY... not the player. They're all great kids. It doesn't ask you to vote and then defend your reason. Many people are treating this as an essay contest... "Why should Gabe (or Garet of Jade) win player of the week?" You are all missing the point entirely and going way overboard.

well i think anybody could have made the shot j-port boys made. they stole it passed it and put it in on there side of the court with everyone piled up on the floor at half court. gabe stole it ran it the whole court zig zagin in between the other players and sank it. both teams did an awesome job but the play of the week is clearly gabe o'brien.

I watched most of these games and Garet Beal is a great player, but to say he's the best high school basketball player in Maine is over the top. Watch a team like Camden Hills, or most class A teams and you will find players with better basketball ability, plus I'm sure you haven't watched all the teams on the west play. For the person who said anyone could make the shot Jonesport made, how many people do you think can dunk in a game like that? not many, I've seen Cote Card and Keegan Pieri and I haven't watched much class A or west but it is not easy to dunk in a game. Having said that I think Gabe O'Brien should win it because of the skill, quickness, and athletic ability it took to dribble behind the back then go all the way down the court for an and one.

I gotta say...Gabes play was certainly the best out of these 3. He stole the ball, and went coast to coast, with pressure and not only did he make the lay up, but he got fouled! He rocks! So much heart and desire.... Relentless drive, he NEVER gives up.

Reading all the comments posted on here makes me wonder; somewhere along the way everyone forgot what the meaning of "good sportsmanship" means. As a former JBHS alumnus myself; I can't believe what i'm reading that people in my own community are putting on here as well as from Sumner too. Tim Throckmorton and Channel 5 news did nott do this "Play of the Week" for all of you to fight about or about you at all. This is about 3 basketball players in particular that were chosen out of all the tournament games who they thought had the best plays. Whether you're an ADULT or KID be more MATURE and don't take anything away from Gabe O'Brien, Garet Beal or Jade Keezer. All 3 of these kids are amazing basketball players in their own way. Gabe makes up for his lack of height by being quick out on the basketball court, Garet uses his height to his teams advantage under the basket and Jade uses her shooting ability anywhere on the court to give her team the points on the board. Before you decide to post a comment on here think about how that comment will reflect on your school,community, you and on the player that is being voted on. I personally think that after watching Garet Beal and Gabe O'Brien play basketball they are both excellent players. I never got to see Jade Keezer play but I'm sure she is an excellant ball player. I had a sister who played 4 years of JBHS basketball and I was manager all 4 years while she played so I know how it feels to play at the Mecca and the emotions and excitement you feel to step onto the floor. Every team that made it to tournament in Class A, B, C or D you've all played an excellent tournament season. You may not have won or made it past your first game but hold your heads high and be proud of how you played to get you where you were.
