Aurora -
Hundreds of folks flocked to Great Pond in Aurora Saturday for an ice fishing derby.
All the proceeds from the derby will benefit the House in the Woods Military and Family Retreat Program.
Which was created by the House family, whose son Joel House was killed while serving in Iraq in 2007.
Folks attending the house are treated to bear, moose and bird hunting along with all kinds of other outdoor activities.
This is the first time they have held an ice fishing derby, but they hope to do it again.
"Response has been good. We've had people approach us today to use their camps, their facilities and as a guide if they're a guide for the state of Maine they've offered their services that way. Vehicles, it's just fantastic when you have an event like this it opens the door for more opportunity," Said Paul House, creator of the "House in the Woods" military and family retreat program.
They are hoping to purchase a side-by-side so veterans who are disabled can experience everything too.
