Maine Electric Companies Merge


Maine regulators have said yes to the merger of the second and third largest electric companies in the state.

The Maine Public Utilities Commission approved a plan to let Canadian Utility firm Emera, incorporated buy the Maine Public Service Company.

Emera is the parent company of Bangor Hydro Electric.

Bangor Hydro serves 117-thousand customers in five counties.

Maine Public Service has 36-thousand customers in Aroostook County.
