Brewer -
Kids heading back to school in Brewer are getting a helping hand from a local credit union.
Members and staff at the Brewer Federal Credit Union, as well as the Brewer Dollar Tree, have been busy collecting school supplies.
All the donated supplies were delivered to the Washington Street Elementary School, but they'll be split up between all Brewer schools right up through high school. There are even some supplies for teachers.
Folks at the credit union say the tough economy was the main reason for the project, but organizers say they're happy to help out for the second year in a row.
David Stanhope, Branch Mgr., Brewer Federal Credit Union: "Economy's kind of in rough shape right now as everybody knows and hopefully this will get some kids off to a good start for the school year."
Janet McIntosh, Principal: "As people in our community have had to tighten their belts so have we in the school department and we appreciate this."
The Brewer Federal Credit Union says they're already planning on doing the school supply campaign again next year.
