Lamoine -
Folks gathered in Lamoine Thursday evening to celebrate the life of a young girl and the dedication of a renovated gym.
Jina's Gym was unveiled to community members at the Lamoine Consolidated School.
The gym is a tribute to Jina Haslam, a 2005 graduate of LCS, who was killed when she was struck by a car while riding her bike on June 20th, 2005.
A committee was formed to spruce up the gym in Jina's memory.
Nearly $250,000 came in through various fundraisers.
" She was involved in the gym, yes, because she was in the state champion cheerleaders for many years and she played basketball. She was also a musician and she was involved in so many things so she'd be very pleased of course. How could you not be pleased," said William Neleski, Jina's grandfather.
The remaining funds the group has raised will be used for a scholarship in Jina's memory.
