Hurricane Earl's approach could lighten up Labor Day weekend traffic on the Maine Turnpike.
Officials say the late timing of the holiday could contribute to fewer drivers than last year, too.
Overall, though, they still predict heavy traffic during the symbolic last weekend of the summer season.
A spokesperson for the Turnpike Authority says with schools in Maine and other parts of New England already open, record-breaking traffic over the three-day weekend isn't likely.
The track of Hurricane Earl could also keep more drivers off the road.
