Bar Harbor -
Acadia National Park staff are working hard to take every precaution in anticipation of the arrival of Hurricane Earl.
A storm surge from Hurricane Bill last year at Thunder Hole washed several people into the water, a young girl died.
Park Planner, John Kelly says plan in light of Earl could include cancellations of shoreline ranger-led programs, possible closure of the campgrounds and potential limits to vehicle access within certain park areas.
Kelly says their main concern is the safety of all the folks visiting the park.
"Generally the safety of people along the shore on rocks trying to view the waves. Which is actually a great past-time here and is pretty spectacular at times. But at the same time, can be very dangerous. So there are safe places to view these and we'll encourage folks to move to those areas."
As the storm approaches, the Acadia staff will be activating a phone message recording that will give visitors up to date weather and sea conditions and temporary area closures.
That number is 288-3338.
