Music from around the world will be heard at the Bangor Waterfront this weekend.

The American Folk Festival has global appeal - This year artists have come from as far away as Korea and Puerto Rico.

As Kristen LaVerghetta found out, the 2010 musical line up strikes a balance between new talent and old favorites.

Folks come from across the country (Nat pop) … to enjoy acts from around the world.

The American Folk Festival is three days of culture, dance, and of course

"It's always exciting to see how the artists come together and in particular this year we've go the opportunity to welcome back so many friends of the festival."

Many acts that have performed at the festival in the past were eager to come back to Bangor.

"Some of the folks that are coming back to the Bangor Waterfront include our Quebec Que group, Le Vent du Nord… There's Dale Watson, who's our country and honky tonk singer… Our Blues and R&B group the Holmes Brothers… and our Bomba e Plana, Porto Rican dance group.

The festival received a grant from the Bowing Corporation to attract younger festival goers - some of the acts have been geared to a younger demographic.

"We're .. doing a break dance group out this year out of D.C. It's called Urban Artistry. It's a big group of folks they do hip hop and house dance and break dance."

Organizers say the budget posed a bit of a challenge this year.

We had to cut a couple of performance stages but we tried to beef that up with some additional on the ground performances and changing the schedule around so people don't' feel like there is a hole in the festival, but really they're still getting a whole lot of value."

The UMaine Black Bear Marching Band will kick off the celebration on Friday in West Market Square. They'll lead folks down Front Street and over the rail road tracks -- right to the festival site.
