A former energy advisor to President George W. Bush has died.

Authorities say the body of 67-year old Matthew Simmons was found Sunday night in his hot tub.

An autopsy Monday determined he died from accidental drowning
with heart disease as a contributing factor.

We're told he lived on Salt Marsh Lane.

Simmons was the founder of an investment banking firm that caters to oil companies. He was the author of a book about Middle East oil reserves.

Simmons also founded the Ocean Energy Institute, which promotes research and development of offshore energy.

Governor Baldacci had helped celebrate the opening of their Rockland office just a few weeks ago.

The governor calls Simmons an innovative thinker whose work has enabled Maine to be viewed as a leader in alternative energy.

Two 911 calls were made to the Knox County Communications Center around 10 Sunday night, of a possible drowning.

A sheriff's deputy was sent over on the ferry.

Simmons is survived by his wife, Ellen, and their five daughters.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ocean Energy Research Institute in Rockland.
