More than 100 firefighters from all over the state took advantage of some free training this weekend in Waterville.
The 8th annual Maine State Wildfire Training Academy kicked off this weekend at Thomas college. Both full time as well as volunteer firefighters got training in how to battle wild fires. Students in the class also get to take a chainsaw safety course as part of their training.
organizers say it's important for the students in the class to get this training.
The students will have the chance to practice their classroom work next weekend. They'll be outside working on the techniques they've learned next Saturday and Sunday.
