What happens to the hair at the end of a haircut? Usually the process is snip, fall, sweep, trash...but at one salon, the hair that ends up on the floor doesn't end up in a waste bin. It actually ends up, cleaning up, an oil spill.
It's a program the Lisa Nichols Salon in Belfast has been involved with for over a year, but the recent situation in the Gulf of Mexico has highlighted their cause.
The salon donates left over hair to Matter of Trust, a non-profit program that turns hair into supplies used to help clean up oil spills.
Lisa Nichols, the owner, says since she began the program, customers have been on board.
Nichols says she plans to keep doing what she can to help the program.
