Penobscot County Conservation Association Scholarship

In 1972, Alan Kimball was a wildlife ecology student. He received a scholarship from the Penobscot County Conservation Association to help with school. He says,

"I finished up in wildlife and I came back and did a masters in forestry and worked for Acadia and came back."

Now Kimball continues to be involved in the scholarship, but it's his students who are receiving them. He's a professor at the University of Maine and is passing on what he's learned. He says,

"One of my themes will be that they've preformed a tremendous service and that resonated, so I've tried to do things of service ever since."

The Conservation Association currently provides 22 scholarships a year. Since 1960, more then 900 thousand dollars has been donated, allowing students to continue their studies in Maine.

The students visit the Conservation Association clubhouse in Brewer during a regular meeting to thank the group helping to fund their education every year, and since it's the 50th anniversary, the students plan to also serve dinner to the members this year.
