A Rockland man accused of abusing and causing the deaths of several horses in Waldoboro was in a Wiscasset court Thursday.
Donald Genthner, 51, is charged with seven counts of animal cruelty and four counts of aggravated animal cruelty.
Police say Genthner recklessly caused the deaths of three horses and mistreated eight others. The property owner alerted police last month.
Four other horses died on the property, but investigators couldn't determine if it was from abuse.
Cathy Jackson says she knew many of the horses that died.
Genthner declined to comment, however his lawyer told us Genthner fed his horses and was in contact with his veterinarian.
Genthner is expected in court again in May.
