Thursday's Child- Mercedes

Mercedes is an 14 year old (DOB 5/95) who loves art…and is very good at it! She is friendly, active and is a natural leader.

Sadie enjoys horseback riding, swimming, and playing outside. She likes to be active and will often be found engaged in some sort of activity. Sadie has made great gains in school over the past year. She is in some mainstreamed classes throughout the school day and the goal is to increase the amount of time Sadie spends in the regular education setting over the coming year. She also receives special services during the day. During school, Sadie enjoys art class the most, but also likes recess and lunchtime.

Sadie is a great eater and will choose health snacks and meals over sweets and candy. Her favorite foods include “raspberries, strawberries, blueberries and pineapple.” Sadie also enjoys football and baseball…and her favorite teams? The Red Sox and Patriots of course!

Sadie has contact with her biological siblings and it is important that this continue in an adoptive placement. It is also important that Sadie continue her individual therapy, as she is working well with that support.

Joy Hollowell discovered that recently when the two met up at Between Friends Art Center in Brewer.

"When I get older, I want a Mercedes. Oh, I forgot, I already own one."

Get it? her name is Mercedes.

"yep, I totally own myself."

Sadie, as she likes to call herself, loves to crack jokes. It's just one of many talents this 8th grader has.

"do you like to sing at all?

Yeah"

Sadie tells me she has high hopes for a singing career.

"I'm hoping to become famous sometime, like Miley Cyrus and those guys."

As for her favorite song? Well, that's an easy one.

"there's a song that's really, really old and it's called Mercedes Benz and I'm really good at singing that song."

Sadie is also really good at art.

"I love art."

If singing doesn't work out, she'd like to try becoming famous with cartoon drawing. Sadie even has a trademark. It's called the "Tweety Bomb."

"It's a bomb of love. It explodes and the person that's beside you, you fall in love," explains Sadie.

Sadie would love a family to call her own. She's not too picky when it comes to parents, but would prefer just sisters.

"I wouldn't really like brothers, because brothers think they're all that and everything," explains the teenager.

As for what she'd do with her sisters...

"Dress up and you can pretend to be movie stars. Because I always pretend to be Miley Cyrus or Hannah Montana."

Sadie says she has a close bond with her friends at school, and like most teenage girls, there is one subject they're very good at.

"we talk about boys most often," says Sadie with a smile.
