The spring tease is on here in Maine, where temperatures approached 70 degrees on Saturday, then tumbled into the 40s with light snow the following day. However, the temperatures will continue to plummet from here, especially the closer we get towards the weekend.
An Alberta Clipper will deliver in bitterly cold air late Thursday and Friday. Alberta Clippers are small, quick moving storms that do not have much moisture, hence the term Clipper. Additionally, this storm forms over the Canadian Province of Alberta, where there is barley any moisture, consequently little precipitation when the storm passes.
Yet, the largest impact from this type of weather phenomenon is the incredible chill that this mini-beast brings with it. Arctic air that is locked up in northern Alberta is brought down with this storm and dramatically swings temperatures.
Alberta Clippers occur often during the winter, but with the El-Nino patter in place this past season, they have been limited. After the Clipper passes, high temperatures will likely not climb above freezing on Friday, not very spring-like at all.
