A man charged with killing a little boy in Bangor two weeks ago appeared in court today for the first time in Maine.
27-year-old Edgard Anziani of Massachusetts is accused of killing 15-month old Damien Lynn in Bangor, he was arraigned this morning at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor.
Anziani was arrested in Maryland last week. Deputy Attorney General William Stokes says two Bangor detectives returned Anziani to Bangor Wednesday night.
Last month, emergency crews were called to the home where Lynn lived with his mother for an unresponsive baby. Police say Anziani was caring for the child and told them the baby had fallen down the stairs.
The State Medical Examiner's Office said the injuries Lynn sustained were not consistent with a fall, authorities say the cause of death was acute trauma to the brain.
Anziani is not the boy's father, but police say he had been staying with the boy's mother off and on for the past four months.
Anziani is being held without bail, if convicted, he faces a minimum of 25 years in prison. His attorney says they expect to be back in court to face arraignment within the month.
