A Dover-Foxcroft woman has been recognized nationally.
As Meghan Hayward tells us, the award she received was because of a passion she has.
Patty Barnes of Dover-Foxcroft received a surprising phone call, but one she was happy to get.
"And I froze. She started saying these things. It was like I couldn't begin to absorb and it was a nice surprise."
That phone call was from the National Association of Professional Women. They
were letting Barnes know she was being named "Professional Woman of the Year."
Barnes is the owner of Log Cabin Labradoodles. She didn't even know she was up for the award.
"I think from my website number one. But also we get called about every six months to see other boards we're on or anything else we've done to further our company. And they had called me about two months before that and I think that's how it happened."
Barnes has owned the business since 2003, when she was living in her log cabin in Greenville.
Since then, her business has expanded, causing her to move twice.
All the dogs live inside her home, except for the therapy dogs.
"We have a family where a child walks in their sleep, but if a puppy is in bed with her, she won't."
The Australian Labradoodles are known for being excellent companions because of their gentleness and intelligence.
"The process is, I have usually lengthy telephone calls with people. And you get a sense of what their families are like and if the dog will fit in well."
For other business women, Barnes has this advice.
"Just follow your North Star. What you believe in, what your passion is and money is always a byproduct of doing your business well and ethically."
