As a six-month road reconstruction project gets underway in downtown Hallowell gets underway the first week in April, the first of series of events will be held. On Saturday, April 7, the public is invited to participate in painting murals on canvas. Work will be done at Harlow Gallery on 160 Water Street from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The murals will be placed on construction fencing and on be display from April to October. Participation is free, materials will be provided, and all ages are welcome
Participants are encouraged to bring sketches and ideas and should expect to work collaboratively in small groups. The event is hosted by Harlow Gallery’s Education Committee and the Hallowell Arts and Cultural Committee. All murals will be auctioned off after construction is completed to support arts programming in Hallowell.
The Grand, downtown Ellsworth’s historic 1938 art deco theatre, announces the “3rd Annual Grand Mouth Off Lip Sync Battle,” a “putting the 'fun' back in fundraising” event for The Grand to be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at 7 pm, live on the Stanley Subaru Stage. All proceeds raised will benefit The Grand. Area businesses will compete in the Grand Mouth Off, with competing performances from some of your favorite local businesses! Each team will then compete against other businesses by performing a “Lip Sync” to popular tunes. Lip Sync teams will be judged by a panel of celebrity judges and the audience votes with their dollars. The top teams will move to the finals and perform a new song for the audience and judges in hopes to win it all! Ticket prices for the battle are $15 and are General Admission. Schoodic Institute’s Bird Ecology Program invites the public to a special celebratory weekend to honor 2018, the Year of the Bird and celebrate the passage of the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, the most important bird-protection law ever passed. Conservation organizations worldwide are joining forces to celebrate the “ Year of the Bird” to focus on the act and to commit to protecting birds for the next 100 years.
