On Friday, February 17th at 7:30 pm, live on the Stanley Subaru Stage, The Grand is excited to present live music in the form of the electrifying folk pop sounds of Liz Longley! The Berklee College of Music graduate and award-winning songwriter is touring to support “Weightless,” the highly anticipated follow-up to her 2015 self-titled release that garnered praise from American Songwriter, Huffington Post and CMT Edge, to name a few. The new album delivers bold, thick pop with rock-and- roll edges. The starkly personal lyrics explore the complexities and even dysfunctions of relationships. Her award-winning songwriting is stronger than ever, and producer Bill Reynolds, the bassist of Band of Horses (also producer for The Avett Brothers and Lissie) helps embrace a lush pop-rock approach, marking a musical evolution for Longley. Tickets for this General Admission presentation are $15. The Grand is excited to bring back the Gilbert & Sullivan Society of Maine (now in their 42nd year), live on the Stanley Subaru Stage and their production of the classic G&S opera “HMS Pinafore (and More!)” running two consecutive weekends beginning Friday February 9th through Sunday, February 18th, with showtimes at 7 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 3 pm on Sundays. Arguably one of the most famous G&S stories concerns takes place, naturally, aboard the ship HMS Pinafore. The captain's daughter, Josephine, is in love with a lower-class sailor, Ralph Rackstraw, although her father intends her to marry Sir Joseph Porter, the First Lord of the Admiralty. She abides by her father's wishes at first, but Sir Joseph's advocacy of the equality of humankind encourages Ralph and Josephine to overturn conventional social order. They declare their love for each other and eventually plan to elope. The captain discovers this plan, but, as in many of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, a surprise disclosure changes things dramatically near the end of the story. Tickets are Reserved Seating for this production and are as follows- $20 for Adults/Seniors, $15 for Students (15 & under) and $10 for Youth (12 & under).
